In these days the U.S. Government's National Security Agency (NSA) is conducting wire-taps, spying against private citizens, recording and logging all phone calls, recording all e-mails and in general, keeping track of everybody's business. This gives us cause to reflect upon "We, The People" and our struggles for freedom of speech and press, our right to privacy, assembly, keeping and bearing arms, petitioning the government over grievances, voting, et al.
A good place to begin our tale is in Boston, Mass. when King George III of England asserted his control of the Colonies' commerce by making an agreement with the East India Company which gave it exclusive rights to shipping all imports and exports while the Crown levied taxes on those imports and exports. Colonial patriots responded to this "last straw" of "taxation without representation" and gave a shipload of tea a bath in Boston Harbor.
A patriot of the times was Thomas Paine who, among other writings, wrote a pamphlet, "Common Sense," which advanced the ideas of freedom and independence from England for the colonies.
Patrick Henry was another fiery patriot proponent of freedom, independence and democracy. We remember his words, "Give me liberty or give me death," even if we may remember little else.
And we have Paul Revere who was the most well-known of the riders who warned their neighbors of the coming of the British soldiers with the cry, "To arms"to arms"The British are coming!"
Today, government/corporation/bank oppression of "We, The People" is being conducted by the Obama Administration's NSA, Supreme Court, the military, and senators and congressmen, all purchased by banks like Goldman Sachs, insurance giants, oil, chemical, and pharmaceutical companies and the arms industry. The power of the United States Government by Corporations (fascism) is immense. Militarily, the U.S. armed forces are only equaled by combining the weapons and forces of the next 15 most powerful countries in the world. Yet, services to "We, The People", paid for by us are going down the toilet because corporate domination of the world is the goal.
Given the Obama Administration's goals of secrecy and continual war, for the purpose of world conquest, it has a huge interest in controlling the thoughts and actions of those who oppose it. Torture is a tool of control as is corporation/government propaganda in the news and commercials on TV, radio and newspapers. Whistleblowers, the modern-day patriots who report government lies, corruption, assassinations, spying, and torture are targets for official government wrath. Julian Assange, Bradley Manning and Ed Snowden are but a few of the world's patriots, advocates for transparency, freedom, truth, and democracy.
Obama and his "Injustice" Department seem unrelenting in their determination to turn these brave patriots into traitors. So obsessed are Obama and Holder, and their ilk, that perhaps we should not be surprised if Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry and Paul Revere become traitors in the view of this administration. Perhaps Obama will order their graves violated, their bodies removed and thrown into the ocean as other people have been or disdainfully hung for public viewing and debasement on this historic anniversary of Freedom and Independence"the 4th of July.
