Hagel WAS fear mongering. And he is not very good at it. Don't get me wrong. Something needs to be done about ISIS, but war is not the answer.
The chorus of war mongers who came to the fore on 9/11 are no better than Herman Goering. They are psychopaths, not patriots. They are PR agents for the 1%, those who profit from eternal war. And most of them declined to serve in the military.
If you are old enough to remember WW II, and I am, you noticed on 9/11 an abrupt change in the rhetoric of the "leaders" of this country. Instead of wise, calm leadership we saw neocons in control and a shrill call for war... not a declared war against a nation-state, but an equally or more costly war against a concept--terrorism--which did not require a Congressional permit, and which can never be distinctly won and ended.
FDR said, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." We've never heard this kind of leadership since then. What we hear is "OMG! We were unprepared for this kind of attack! Be afraid! Be very afraid! They'll soon be here!"
Al Qaida...what were they, really? A small shadowy hodge podge of unorganized poor people, a quasi-militia and individual actors funded how? By money from Saudi Arabia primarily. Our war mongers used bin Laden as a boogeyman for years to keep the war drums beating. We couldn't find him? Couldn't wipe him and his close associates out? Give me a break!
Now we see a new "threat"...ISIS... It came out of nowhere with funding from where? And our leaders are once again beating the drums of war furiously on CNN and FAUX news. And our military-industrial complex is laying the standard PR groundwork for undeclared unending war costing billions of $ and untold loss of life-- the usual strategy with the neocons at the forefront leading the propaganda effort.
Sure, we can see the obvious ruthlessness and brutality of the ISIS activity. Obviously they have the ability to strike fear in Iraq sufficient to get the US trained and armed Iraqi military to throw down their US arms and flee. (So much for the success of our "liberation" efforts and spending.) It is said that they (ISIS) have robbed the banks for funding. But how much funding do they have, and where does it really come from?
We have over 1000 military bases in foreign lands, and we spend whatever our military wants without debate--all of it financed by borrowed money. It's all out of control. And we can't terminate all these fledging terrorist groups? We never try to chop off their sources of funds, or even identify them.
And this present effort to scare us into believing that the US can't stop the 100 or so American jihadis from getting super training from ISIS and then returning to the US to wreak havoc here? How are they going return without going through US Customs and showing their passports (that show where they've been)?
It's all propaganda. We need to clean our own house of the traitors who are lying to the American people about the threat. The biggest threat is right here speaking to us daily.
