Hard to believe -- it has been a week since the holy smoke appeared and the world heralded a second living Pope.  Where does the time fly?

It is church night once again and, as always, your humble and obedient servant will take to the pulpit to share the gospel of the misguided GOP. Check out the tale of millionaire televangelist Pat Robertson, who urges his poorest and most destitute disciples to donate "just $20" to his coffers so they will be blessed by God.

Raw Story has the details:

"Televangelist Pat Robertson on Monday encouraged families who could not pay their bills to become 'partners' of his ministry because 'it's just $20 a month.'

"At the end of Monday's 700 Club broadcast, Robertson told the story of D.L and Deborah Hobby, who 'lived large' in a 4,600-square-foot home until the housing market crashed and their real estate business dried up.

"After selling their home at a 'huge loss,' the Hobbys declared Chapter 13 bankruptcy in 2010. The 'defeated' family of four was forced to move into a 1,000-square-foot home ''D.L. and Deborah did agree on one thing: They would keep on tithing despite their financial difficulties,' a CBN narrator explained. 'The Hobbys began to watch The 700 Club and eventually became partners.' That's when 'amazing things started to happen,' the report noted. 'Deborah's business eventually started to rebound. And within two years of the bankruptcy, the Hobbys bought a larger home.'

"'We encourage you to join the 700 Club,' the TV preacher added. 'It's just $20 a month. And if all of us do it together, it gets to be millions and millions and millions of dollars!'"

Millions and millions ... in your silky pocket, Pat. That's what counts, right? Whether it's pink-haired Jan Crouch asking housewives for their grocery money or ol' Blood Diamond Pat asking the penniless to send him a sawbuck (for Jesus), these rapture-right telehypocrites never disappoint.

Speaking of the religiously insane, the backlash over folk-rocker Michelle Shocked's outrageous anti-gay remarks in San Francisco continues as another theater has cancelled her scheduled performance, as  KPTV reports:

"Witnesses say the singer-songwriter started quoting the Bible on stage at Yoshi's Jazz Club, saying that God hates all homosexuals.

"'She started talking about hypocrisy in the Bible and that the end of days are coming, and then took it to a whole other level and said some words that pretty much offended everyone in the venue,' said Lisa Bautista, the director of marketing  at Yoshi's.

"The rant by Shocked, who now identifies as a born-again Christian, triggered venues across the nation to cancel her shows, including at the Alberta Rose Theater in northeast Portland.

"Owners immediately posted this message to their Facebook page after learning about what happened:

"'We are deeply saddened by today's news regarding Michelle Shocked, but our decision to cancel her show was an easy one to make.'

"Instead, the theater says it's hosting a benefit concert for Basic Rights Oregon on the same day and time Shocked would have played."

This news, coupled with the growing support among average 'mericans for marriage equality (witness the recent advocacy of Hillary Clinton for DOMA), is a good sign that the Rapture Right is losing this fight.

Let us pray...

Kathy never expected a career in radio as a talk show producer. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Kathy was completing her nursing degree when in 2001 - in an emergency - she was asked to fill in as the producer of Mike's program. Within a few (more...)
