(This is a continuation of the ideas in the article on Facebook and OpEdNews.com entitled "The Journey Back to Sustainable Sanity")

It is time to start the journey. It is time to move beyond mere words and ideas to actions. The beauty of this journey is that it is, to some degree, one that you have already been on in several ways, but perhaps have not remembered to give yourself credit for.

It is quite important that there is a way to sustain your journey, but also build some momentum for yourself and others who might also be on the same journey. We all know about New Year's resolutions, or diets, or many other schemes to change our lives. They often fade away as we get distracted since they are not easily sustainable as we get distracted and lose momentum. The journal is an antidote to prevent that from occurring.

The other impetus is that this is, in many ways, a life-or-death journey. If we do not find ways back from the brink of our modern madness, we will not only lose our humanity, but also the planet that sustains us.

The Journal is a perfect way to document this journey. Just as a journey is the distance you can cover in one day, this journal will be a record of actions you have taken each day, or decisions you have made to make changes, no matter how small. This will allow you to attend to the trip, one day at a time, and to be able to look back on where you began and events that have happened along the way.

Your journal can take any form that suits you. I suggest a looseleaf folder because it allows for expansion as you may have some days when one page is not enough, or that you want to include things you have created that day that enhanced the journey. But ultimately this is your journal, a record of your trip back to some form of sustainable sanity. It is a record or what part you are playing in an important process for the society and the planet.

This journal is mostly for you, but you can share any parts with friends or family, or you might want to share with others through Facebook or the Facebook page "Journey Back to Sustainable Sanity", or Twitter, or LinkedIn, or any other on-line apps, but always include the hashtag #Journeybacktosustainablesanity, so that you can see what others are doing.

There are several goals. One is to understand how the small things you do, begin to build momentum for social change, a second goal is to build a community, another goal is to begin to reclaim our humanity. You can probably think of other goals, but these are three of the more significant.

Suggestions for actions.

 · Attending to nature

 · Taking time for others

 · Small actions like a smile or greeting.

 · Attending to you daily paths in a more conscious way.

I have a deep belief in participatory democracy, the value of ordinary people and finding a path to a sustainable future. I also understand the immediacy or the need for significant action to save democracy and our sustainable future on this (more...)
