Warning, Truthseekers! Aliens from Planet Murdoch have invaded Earth to eat our brains and transform us into an army of zombies they can use to take over the world! What . . . too much? Can't handle that? Not so for the brain-dead Fox "news" viewers.

Last Friday Fox treated its moronic viewers to similar tabloid-style TV headlines and news-scrolls that seemed extreme even by NewsCorp standards. "Green Alien Invasion?! NASA: Global Warming May Provoke Attack!" screamed the script at the bottom of the screen.  Fox "news" web site boasted this headline: "Aliens Could Attack Earth to End Global Warming, NASA Scientist Frets" and continued with glaringly inaccurate statements claiming a joint study of NASA and Penn State scientists had predicted this apocalyptic event. Uhhhmmmm . . . maybe not.

Yes, the mad researchers who run the Murdoch propaganda machine are digging deep into their infamous data-mines to unearth the most obscure sources that are just factual enough to use as fodder for one of their fabricated Fox-ified fairy tales. In this case the plan was to twist this particular essay to further discredit the science of global climate change, make Al Gore jokes, and demonstrate that NASA is a silly waste of taxpayer funding (the better to shut it down, my dears). Fox then further manipulates its knuckle-dragging viewers to fear, hate, and mistrust the Democrats who work to stop such environmental disasters -- and to love, embrace, and support the Republicans who rebuke such ungodly nonsense. It's a win-win. For those hell-bent on destroying this country.

It started innocently enough.  A group of buddies who work in the sciences wrote a satirical paper about contact with otherworldly intelligence titled "Would Contact with Extraterrestrials Benefit or Harm Humanity? A Scenario Analysis."  One small part of the larger essay suggested a scenario of alien intervention on Earth to prevent further global climate change. And while one of the contributors to this article happened to work at NASA, this by no means was a NASA study, nor was it funded by taxpayer money (which was another false claim, but who's counting?).

According to Shawn Domagal-Goldman, the co-author of the paper, it wasn't a study at all:

"This isn't a NASA report. It's not work funded by NASA, nor is it work supported by NASA in other ways. It was just a fun paper written by a few friends, one of whom happens to have a NASA affiliation. ...Yes, I work at NASA. It's also true that I work at NASA Headquarters. But I am not a 'civil servant' just a lowly postdoctoral candidate. More importantly, this paper has nothing to do with my work there. I wasn't funded for it, nor did I spend any of my time at work or any resources provided to me by NASA to participate in this effort."

Sure makes you wonder how Team Murdoch located this little tidbit. More cell-phone hacking? The Fox research department must be teeming with scavengers who scour obscure sources to discredit all forms of science they find objectionable, which is most of it. Worse, they don't even bother to print a retraction or correction when their lies are revealed. First they chip away at NASA and the EPA . . . we saw what they did to the FAA. Then FDA and OSHA regulations can be removed and pretty soon there will be no stopping the Big Corporations from completely ravaging the planet! Yipee!

And that's why this topic is important. The most vital function of Fox "news" at the moment is as a catalyst to drive the coming election in one direction. Both GOP favorites Bachmann and Perry are anti-science, global-climate-change deniers; hence the obvious and outrageous manipulation of this otherwise insignificant little paper. Both are pro-corporate capitalists who would de-fund most of our public health, environmental, and social safety programs with no more thought than selecting that day's brand of hairspray.

Fox is the driving force behind the GOP and they will stop at nothing to advance their candidate-kings and the voter-pawns across the chessboard.

The self-selected target audience of Teabaggers has been properly conditioned to receive the stream of misinformation directly into their mid-brains and will march like robots to the polls and automatically punch that ballot for the candidate Fox ultimately selects.

And -- not that it matters -- they'll think they're doing it of their own free will. In the name of smaller government and to prevent the "evul Libruls" from regulating the very industries that are choking us all to death.

Makes you wish the "study" was for real, doesn't it?
