The partisan nature of political scandals in this country makes each outcry by Republicans for Congressman Anthony Weiner's resignation sound hollow and hypocritical. The same party impeached a President for sexual misconduct, yet ridiculed efforts to impeach a President from their own party who lied to get support for an unnecessary war.

Whether the present situation warrants an ethical investigation is a matter for Congress to decide. Whether a Congressman should resign an elected office should be the decision of his constituents.

Considering the economic problems facing the country, the latest debacle serves as nothing more than an annoying detraction deflecting attention from serious issues that need to be addressed by our governing bodies. Unfortunately, the media is driving the story, capitalizing on the public's unending lust for the lewd and sordid.
