What a week, Truthseekers! Naked celebrities, another ISIS beheading, tragic death of Joan Rivers, the fall of the House of McDonnell in Virginia, the fall of a gargoyle in Michigan that killed a pedestrian, the fall of a turbo prop plane into the ocean near Jamaica ... this week's headlines sound like the new Fall lineup on TLC.
It was a bad week, no question, but certainly a BIG score for the cable news networks, with no shortage of breaking news and flashy headlines. Wolf Blitzer was practically salivating when news of another aviation disaster hit the telescreens, then hit the ocean. Tabloid television at its finest, yup. Better than bubble boy.
The plane disaster resoundingly trumped the President's powerful speech today in which he threatened to "degrade and destroy" ISIS.
"President Barack Obama vowed Friday to 'degrade and ultimately destroy' the militants of ISIS -- an organization that he said was too dangerous to be simply contained.
"He said that NATO countries agreed on the need for immediate action against the militants, who have rampaged across Syria and Iraq and have vowed to establish a caliphate across the Middle East. He also said that Arab states, including those with a Sunni majority, must help as well.
"The president spoke from Wales at the conclusion of a NATO summit that was called to deal with Russian aggression in Ukraine but that was somewhat overshadowed by the ISIS threat.
"'You can't contain an organization that is running roughshod through that much territory, causing that much havoc, displacing that many people, killing that many innocents, enslaving that many women,' he said. 'The goal has to be to dismantle them.'
"He said that included bolstering Iraqi security forces and taking out ISIS leaders."
Bolstering security forces. Didn't we just pull troops out of Iraq? Are we going to do this see-saw back-and-forth forever, Truthseekers?
