With Americans finally waking up to the systemic corruption that has spread through our national institutions like a cancer, the establishment has gone retro. In a return to the paranoia of the Cold-War era the media and the government are conjuring Senator McCarthy in an effort to stifle political dissent.
With the election a scant two months away and the general public increasingly distrustful of Hillary Clinton, all real issues have been shelved and replaced by demagoguery and fear mongering. As the entrenched bloodsuckers in Washington face the very real possibility that an outsider will kick down the doors of the smoke-filled back rooms, a familiar foreign bogeyman has returned to save the day.
As reported by the Washington Post, "Intelligence community investigating covert Russian influence operations in the United States":
U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies are probing what they see as a broad covert Russian operation in the United States to sow public distrust in the upcoming presidential election and in U.S. political institutions, intelligence and congressional officials said.
The aim is to understand the scope and intent of the Russian campaign, which incorporates cyber-tools to hack systems used in the political process, enhancing Russia's ability to spread disinformation.
The effort to better understand Russia's covert influence operations is being spearheaded by James R. Clapper Jr., the director of national intelligence. "This is something of concern for the DNI," said Charles Allen, a former longtime CIA officer who has been briefed on some of these issues. "It is being addressed."
A Russian influence operation in the United States "is something we're looking very closely at," said one senior intelligence official who, as others interviewed, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter. Officials are also examining potential disruptions to the election process, and the FBI has alerted state and local officials to potential cyberthreats.
As has become common practice with the putrid press in this once-great country, the WAPO cites the obligatory anonymous sources to make their case. The hysterical red-baiting coming from the D.C. establishment, the Democrats, and Hillary Clinton is a blatant and ham-handed effort to sow the seeds of suspicion among Americans in order to maintain their stranglehold on power.
It's also a mockery that the piece claims that the efforts to root out the "Russian" fifth column are being "spearheaded" by DNI James Clapper, the same man who lied his ass off to Congress over the NSA's domestic-surveillance programs that were exposed by Edward Snowden. If it wasn't so dangerous the paranoia could be dismissed as parody.
What better way to chill dissent and put down a rebellion against the jack-leg thieves who have hijacked the country than to play the traitor card. Nothing has really changed since George W. Bush and the GOP patriotism police declared that you're either with us or you are with the terrorists only now that the Democrats have become the establishment it's far more politically correct to demonize the "Russians" instead.
Could loyalty oaths and a revamped House Un-American Activities Committee be far behind?
