Could the Trumpster, the paper tiger frontrunner, bring down more damage on his head, without offsetting gains, than in the last week? Is Trump so out of touch, so profoundly ignorant that he qualifies not for high office but the least conscious candidate this era? Or could the last horrendous week -- no less than a compressed parade of self-destructive gaffes -- anticipate a way out the back door to reduce the looming humiliation?

And this apparent sabotage, conscious or not, has nothing to do with the dangerously reckless interviews with the NY Times and the Washington Post in which he sounds, per one pundit, like a college freshman, having done none of the reading, BSing on the final exam. Alas, I was hoping he'd get close enough in July to bunker buster the regressive rightwing renegades.

Easy assumption: Trump is a spoiled egomaniac who can't stand losing, let alone public humiliation that forever stamps him a world "loser." Clearly, he's way over his head, unqualified even to finish the season without mortal wounds to self-inflated skills and boasted superiority. Palin, unchecked, with more ego and acrimony. And since explicit quitting is almost as bad as losing, that's not a ready option. Of course, he'll dream up gobs of establishment "unfairness' that banishes him, and he just betrayed his lying pledge to back the GOP choice.

Overplaying. Misplaying, Played Out

But imagine: will Trump continue make up insufferable nonsense, showing his "maverick" outlandishness, even if that means self-destruction? This pathological liar then transforms withdrawal into sainted victimhood, taken down by a predatory elite out to get him from the start. And yet, here's a guy who's mastered the TV manipulation game so it's hard to explain this shocking, spontaneous stupidity.

Here's today's speculation:Trump never really wanted to be president, the frontrunner seat is getting way too hot, and now he wants out. Bring spoiled and impulsive, with only ego to lose, his fall could be quicker than his rise as his image crumbles.

For this week's clear support, I cite the ex-Trump Super PAC chief and communications expert, Stephanie Cegielski, confirming what many initially believed: Trump never dreamed his prospects would soar, nor that his knee-jerk schtick would mesh so perfectly with an irate third of the rightwing dying to yell "Screw You" (or worse) to the hated GOP entrenchment. Her exact words:
