I've spent the last hour going through youtube videos of a sampling of James Horner's work. It's opened my eyes. I've valued Horner's music, at least since his Oscar award winning Titanic soundtrack.

And the soundtrack for Avatar was one of the few that I ever bought-- and one I still play routinely.
But digging into Youtube, discovering all the other movies I didn't realize his music had enhanced made his loss at the young age of 61 in a two seater plane crash all the more painful.

James Horner added great beauty to our world. He touched my heart, inspired me, so many times. Below you'll find a handful of my picks of some of his best, though, to be honest, whole movie soundtracks would have to be included to truly do him justice.

First, A Gift of Thistle, from Braveheart.

This is going to be harder than I thought. Just listening to this first one gives me chills.
