Supposedly, the new (U.S.)Kansas Senator, Jerry Moran, is supposed to be ready to fight against no-bid contracts and bad defense department decisions and overall bad military actions. That is what Moran's website and newsletters claims, but Moran doesn't seem to find any pork in the DOD or in its practices. Nor does he criticize any pre-2009 spending policies he supported under President Bush that still cost us tons of dollars.
For that, we have to turn to our nation's heroes--our whistleblowers.
I recently perused the National Whistleblowers Website
and came across a few that Senator Moran hasn't been out to support as he should.
For example, there is:
Lieutenant Colonel Darrel Vandeveld
Darrel Vandeveld is Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps. Since the September 2001 attacks, he has served in Bosnia, Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan, and has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards. From May 2007 to September 2007 he served active duty as a prosecutor at the Office of Military Commissions in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Lt. Col. Vandeveld resigned from his post at Guantanamo after concluding that he could not ethically or legally prosecute the case of detainee Mohammad Jawad.
and there is
Bunnatine Greenhouse stood alone in opposing the approval of a highly improper muti-billion dollar no bid contract to Halliburton for the reconstruction of Iraq. In retaliation for her courage she was removed from her position as the highest-ranking civilian contracting official at the Army Corps of Engineers. Her case continues.
