Days Two and Three of Occupy National Gathering

Day 3 of Occupy National Gathering was filled with action, visioning, information and visioning. 
The morning and early afternoon were dedicated, first, to discussions of different topics, like food, information, actions. 
That was followed by speakers. Matt Taibbi spoke around 1 PM. 
At 3:45, about 300 marchers left Franklin Square at sixth and Race to begin a march that would run about three miles-- stopping at Comcast Headquarters and  a few banks.

While marching down Market st, there were a group of about 100 Verizon Workers who joined the march, bringing the march to at least 400.

Occupy Food, fed about 400 occupiers for dinner after the march. 

Later that evening there was a potential confrontation between Veterans for Peace, led by local Bill Perry and a large phalanx of helmeted police and park rangers, all spiffed up with Homeland Security provided robocop gear.

Long time Opednews.com member/contributor Mikel Weisser Plays guitar outside the Vets for Peace Tent. 

Finally, the police drew back, perhaps figuring out that arresting Veterans the day before July 4 holiday is not such a good idea. 

Day two of the  Occupy   National   Gathering  saw a day full of events relocated to our new activities space in Franklin Square. Yesterday's calendar included a march in solidarity with the Quebec student strikers, the first-ever  Occupy  General Assembly, and Pulitzer Prize-winning and bestselling author Chris Hedges, who gave a 30 minute speech on suppression of dissent and its role in the service of the corporate state.

  • There was also an impromptu march yesterday in solidarity with the jailed protester arrested from a joint  National  Park Service/Philadelphia police department raid on June 30th.VIDEOS of this June 30th "Second Bank" raid on peaceful protesters hereherehere and here.
