Ah, the elections are over. And whom did we elect? Trump! And the Christians who place their vote on him say, "We have family values." Family values? Come on! What's his record with the "Ladies?" Family values?
How do we get out of this mess? How do we get ourselves independent of an insane system that has mothered and fathered the insanity of Trump? (And Hilary as far as that goes).
In this essay, let's consider your freedom by discussing the economy. We are all focused on that dollar bill, which is often abstracted into "on's" and "off's" on a computer chip. Ultimately, the dollar bill isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
Are there alternatives? Yes, local currency for one (e.g., Ithaca Dollars) as well as Time Dollars, which are given in accordance to the hours of work you do. Thus, a teenager's hour mowing lawns is equal to a lawyer's hour consultation. So, if you are baby sitting, you may get paid in Time Dollars. And what could you get for that? A massage? Or do you wish someone to clean your house?
In line with Time Dollars, TimeBanks are economic programs where people are able to purchase throughout a particular region. So, I could write this article and get time dollars (3, for example) that can be used to get a hair cut and a massage.
See how it works? No big corporation from 1,000 miles away determining what you buy and where.
I decided to do this series of articles within diverse geographical areas because many readers believe TimeBanks are a joke in which not many people are engaged. Hopefully my series will speak otherwise to the reader while confronting her with the immensity in which TimeBanks and Resilience Hubs are fostering just, sustainable and equitable lifestyles in our country and world.
