Since Colin Kaepernick has finally regained his starting status, (and lost it again?), might it finally be a time to look back in this age of cynicism and ask if what is now was actually born of the most noblest of deeds. Especially since the luster of Colin's moral convictions was dulled by his choice to not vote in the last election...
Colin Kaepernick sat during the playing of the national anthem. There may
have been others that day but the camera never visited their cast. Instead,
the camera and the sportscasters started a story that made sure that Colin's
display would turn into a national social media event.
During the course of a season, especially preseason. I've seen some players sit during the playing of the national anthem, most have had legitimate reasons, injury, taping, or still putting shoes on but sometimes just plain old not paying attention to their surroundings, focusing instead on what lies ahead in the game. And fortunately for them they were not showcased on national TV for as long as Colin was.
Well, having heard about the hoopla that his sitting down caused what's the most natural thing for Colin to do. The same thing that most of us would do, give an excuse, even make one up if the real reason doesn't sound good....human instinct.
I myself am curious as to what his patterns were throughout the whole (non-starting) preseason playing of the national anthem...Or, had he ever mentioned this moral stance to anyone prior to that eventful day. And would he have continued the sitting down, or the more honorable tribute, kneeling down, if the camera had not focused on him that one day? And why not kneel down that first day, a more convincing tribute. And most obvious....would he have been sitting down if he was the starting quarterback that day?
As I'd mention, in this age of cynicism where the truth is ambiguous to say the least....questions should always be asked, until the truth finally reveals itself....and it usually does.
And the simple truth is none of this would have turned into a circus if the camera had moved on instead of staying on Colin...what story then would be my curiosity.
Just looking around: from politics to the killing of innocent lives throughout the world, including policemen who do protect us, the Truth is often abused and misused when left to the media and human interpretations.
...And there were other issues upon which to vote that make a difference, did anyone ask Colin why he didn't bother to vote at all?
