I like what the Truth Cat has brought to this conversation, though I'm not on all fours with her political philosophy.
My personal belief is well-articulated by Charles Eisenstein. In a nutshell: The Earth is in full-scale ecological collapse with extinction rates as high as when a meteor wiped out the dinosaurs. CO2 in the atmosphere is one part of that story, and we should not be seduced into drastic action focused on CO2 alone, but push for the broad changes in economics and culture that will be necessary for humans to cease destroying the ecology that supports us.
The Truth Cat's message is narrower than this, but this video is well-researched and entertaining. She talks about the hijacking of "science" for a political agenda, and she reminds us that science can only thrive in a spirit of open inquiry. She cites lots of examples of dogmatism in the scientists and politicians who are advocating emergency climate action, and accuses them of making money from the message. And she finishes with a surprising story about the Rockefellers that is a real head-scratcher for me.
There was some (for me) new and interesting science in this. I hope you'll respond to it and put your comments below.
...and here's another video, also full of good science and an interesting long-term perspective on the earth's last 500 million years. The earth is much warmer than it was 13,000 years ago, but much colder than it was in the age of the dinosaurs.
