This is a letter I wrote to the Canadian Prime Minister.
To: Prime Minister Stephen Harper
I have never been so ashamed to be a Canadian as I am today after Canada's digraceful, egregious decision to vote against the human right's resolution at the United Nations on September 12/09. During my lifetime, I have seen 11 Prime Ministers come and go but never have I been so thoroughly disgusted with my government for failing to acknowledge the human rights abuses in the Gaza strip. Most of the world, the UN Human Rights Commission and the Iinternational Red Cross condemn the atrocites perpetrated by the Israeli military against innocent people. I teach international law at Seneca College and I have also written four books, two of which are about international law. I have delivered numerous papers at International Conferences on International Law including York University, Glasgow University and this year, the University of Dundee and Cambridge University and there is absolutely no doubt that Israel is guilty of major violations of international law and in particular, the Geneva Conventions. If your government isn't aware of this, then check with your experts in the civil service although I believe that ideology is overriding common sense, morality and simple human decency in this case. SHAME ON YOUR GOVERNMENT!!!!!!!
I also wish to comment on my MP, Peter Kent's statement with regard to assigning blame for the bombing of a school in the Gaza strip. I think it is safe to say that he is the laughing stock of anyone remotely familiar with conditions in the Gaza Strip and he does your government and Canada a great disservice by uttering such inane remarks. I will work vigorously in the next election for whatever candidate who has the best chance to defeat him, and I will hound him on the campaign trail. I do not want such a fool representing me in parliament. I wouldn't waste my time contacting him. SHAME ON PETER KENT!!!!
