Now before you flip out, I'm asking you to set aside your previous bias and follow the following line of reason. If you find a fallacy in my thinking, please write your findings. Let's have an intelligent discussion about intelligence.
Physicist John Gribbin mentioned the problem of predestination in his book on quantum mechanics.(1) If Big Bang Theory is true, the Universe started from a central location and is expanding outward. In theory, if a physicist knew the position and velocity of every particle of the Universe shortly after the Big Bang, then using Newton's Laws of Motion, the physicist could predict the position and velocity of every particle in the Universe for any time in the future. The Universe would be quite predictable and predetermined.
If we couple that thought with the idea of Evolution that life evolved from the interaction of particles of matter then we could predict when life would evolve and what forms of life would evolve. If we further that thought with the idea that intelligence also evolved from the interaction of matter, then we could predict when intelligence would evolve. We could also predict when we would be born. We could even predict what our thoughts would be because we could predict the configuration of matter of our brains. We would lead a life of ultimate predestination.
I define intelligence as the ability to adapt to new and trying situations. From the lowly virus to the human being, life seems to have that ability. However, we can only say that we adapted, if we had choices. We can only say we are intelligent if we have choices.
We cannot say that one of us is more intelligent than another unless we can say that we made an intelligent decision. If Christians, Muslims and Atheists have no choice but to act the way they do and believe what they do, nobody is right or wrong. Nobody is intelligent. Nobody is stupid. Our arguments and discussions become pointless.
If Big Bang Theory and Evolution are true, there is no such thing as intelligence. We have no choice. Therefore you cannot be intelligent and believe in Evolution.
The television series Flash Forward is an interesting and entertaining example of predestination. In the series, everyone on Earth passes out for a couple of minutes. During that time they have a vision of what they are doing on a certain day in the future. The series follows people as they try to determine why the event occurred and seek to avoid or embrace their futures. The series is an excellent example of the futility of our lives if Evolution is true. No matter what people do, their futures are inexorable.
Are you intelligent? Does your brain create thoughts or does your brain express thoughts created in another realm à ‚¬" a realm of intelligence? Can you control your thoughts and actions?
Those questions are not only central to our lives they are key to understanding the problems we are facing in health care. For nearly 100 years, evolution-based-medicine has been the dominant system in America. In following articles I will show the fallacies of that approach and argue that intelligent-design-based-medicine may offer a more successful approach.
