The GOP HQ is calling, they're running low on White-Out and dry erase markers.
The real Willard Mitt Romney has revealed his true self (if not his tax returns) at long last.
"There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what...These are people who pay no income tax.
Romney went on:
"[M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
Okay . . . deep breath. Mittens is denigrating roughly half the population of the US because they are so-called "working poor," or struggling middle class or working class and . . . they don't pay federal income taxes. This from a man who hid his hundreds of millions in Swiss bank accounts and shifted his businesses to the Cayman Islands -- or wherever -- to avoid paying US taxes. Does that make him one of his own self-declared pitiful victims who live to feed at the public trough? Or is it okay to dodge taxes if you're extremely rich, but it's bad, bad, bad to be so abused by corporate America that you're unemployed or under-employed and simply don't earn enough to feed your family or meet even the lowest income level requirement for taxation?
Well, a new day has dawned this AM and America is waiting with "bated breath -- some of us caressing our gilded coffee mugs, some clutching a Styrofoam cup" -- waiting for the replay of the video recorded last night at 10PM (!) EDT of the Anointed One explaining his ugly, hateful statements. How can he be President of All the People of These United States if he has written off half the population as victims who relish their victimhood? A population refusing to take responsibility for their pathetic lives?
Elder Mittens staged a hasty presser last night and explained it this way:
"It's not elegantly stated, let me put it that way. I'm speaking off the cuff in response to a question and I'm sure I can state it more clearly in a more effective way than I did in a setting like that and so I'm sure I'll point that out as time goes on but we don't even have the question given the snippet there nor the full response and I hope the person who has the video would put out the full material. But it's a message which I'm going to carry and continue to carry which is look the president approach is attractive to people who aren't not paying taxes because frankly my discussion about lowering taxes isn't as attractive to them and therefore I'm not likely to draw them in to my campaign as effectively as those who are in the middle."
So let me make sure I understand his non-apology. What Mittens meant to say -- more elegantly, of course -- was that this pathetic 47%, moochers all, don't earn enough to pay taxes and, therefore, his message of lower taxes won't make sense to them and they will vote for Obama. Funny how he totally ignored his ugly comments about how they play "victim" and refuse to take responsibility. The woman on food stamps is to be derided, the veteran receiving benefits from his service overseas is a leech, the senior on chemotherapy paid for -- in part -- by Medicare is shirking their personal responsibility; but the rich tax-dodger is to be applauded for his hearty, proud (completely phony) independence. These are, clearly, his values.
