This started out as satire...
Life can imitate the National Enquirer, so when a clueless congresswoman creates headlines with an Islamophobic witch hunt, the resulting fall out can be just as outrageous... and touch upon some very serious issues at the same time.
Michele Bachmann's foray into McCarthyism is now going into its third week, showing no signs of letting up, and, as Anderson Cooper points out (see below), she is actually doubling her efforts to expose people she deems unfit for Congress and government. The Bachmann Battle to rid us of all Islamic infiltrators has garnered a mass of censuring and criticism just like Joe McCarthy's Red Scare. The difference between McCarthy and Bachmann, however, could not be more vivid: McCarthy was a megalomaniac who's career wound up in a drunken stupor, while Bachmann is a clueless Christofascist whose career has given fodder to countless stand-ups and Saturday Night Live sketches.*
Now
etched in the minds of conspiracy theorists and Islamophobes everywhere,
Bachmann's witch hunt started with the demonization of Huma Abedin, aide to
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and wife of former congressman Anthony
Wiener.
The
problem with her demonizations: not even the Muslim Brotherhood knows what
Bachmann's talking about:
[I]n Egypt, the birthplace
of the Brotherhood, the organization's leaders were either perplexed by the
accusations or simply hadn't heard them. Nor had they heard of Huma Abedin.
"The Muslim Brotherhood
can't even penetrate the Egyptian government," said a Brotherhood leader in
Egypt's Daqheleya province, Ibrahim Ali Iraqi, in response to the accusations
his group had infiltrated top US agencies.
Sen.
John McCain and House Majority Leader John Boehner have basically censured Mrs.
Bachmann on the floor of Congress , and the latest criticism calling for a
"cease and desist" has come from the Center
For Inquiry in a letter to
Bachmann and associates signed by 42 religious and secular organizations.
Bachmann's
Gander - The Stuff Of Lame Platitudes And One Unusual Proposal
"What's good for the goose" should
never apply in politics, but when push comes to shove, dishing out a taste of
one's own medicine is fun and turnabout is fair play. Michele Bachmann might
not appreciate it, but hell, this might be the time for ... a counter-witch
hunt:
RECONTRUCTIONISTS ARE POISED TO TAKE OVER THE COUNTRY!
And
Bachmann, her colleagues, along with other government officials and politicians
are actually infiltrators of Reconstructionist Gary north and the late R.J.
Rushdoony!!
