California politicians are no better at prognosticating than television pundits.
Always feeling that we’re left out of the loop by being one of the last states to hold our primary, the crystal ball-less arranged to spend million to have our presidential primary moved up to February, with our secondary primary, primary on Tuesday.
Yeah! We all thought. Now’s our chance to have some political clout; we’re smarter and more “with it” than those Puritans in New Hampshire and rubes in Io-way. We deserve to be one of the first, not among the last to have a primary say.
The political gods said screw you land of sun, earthquakes, forest fires and forefrontedness on creating silly, personally intrusive laws.
“Try to jump to the head of the line and retribution is ours!,” said the Gods.
By jumping ahead, we missed out on mega bucks from campaign ads -- okay some good did come with the jump; there was very little campaigning here and almost no televised ads for either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton.
But, most of all, we missed out on the country’s biggest voter ego trip. Had we waited until Tuesday, June 3rd when our normal primary would have been held, we would be at the center of a media rush to attention.
All eyes would have been on California. We would have been in the eye of the political storm, with all the buzz and all the money swirling around us in a F-6 hurricane. The pundits and national press would have flocked here like so many carrion-seeking vultures, stimulating our sagging economy and feasting off our political bones.
With our mega-votes and mega-delegate count we coulda been the “Deciders” between Barack and Hillary.
I have a strong hunch that if our primary was held on Tuesday when it should have been, Obama just might have been the winner or would have garnered more delegates than he did in February.
We did win one for the voting folks when wails from the left coast put an end to networks calling state presidential elections before our polls closed at 11 p.m. EST. Tuff s**t if the networks have to sit on the results for three hour before making their predictions; we have to wait just as long.
Now it’s poor lonely Hawaii out in the middle of the Pacific that’s out of the declared-state-winners loop, so to speak.
Even though the Clinton camp has been moving the goalpost, it’s time for them to suck it up, lick their wound and become one with the Obama half of the Democratic party.
By Tuesday it will all be over except for the shouting on one side, and the “we’ve was robbed” on the other side.
As we’ve seen from Hillary supporters right here at OEN, they can be a vicious lot, something the Obama supporters never were, even when he was behind in the polls.
It’s time for Terry McCaulif to take a breath in his nonstop “we’re ahead in the popular vote spin. Yeah, right. Who knows what the “real“ popular vote is. Caucus state voters aren’t included in the popular voted tallies.
