Our world has cancer and that cancer has come about due to our belief system regarding linear and non-ending growth. According to Paul Levy's, Dispelling Wetiko: Breaking the Curse of Evil, we have cursed ourselves and brought on this cancerous growth via our belief in (1) never ending growth (We Want More!); (2) top-down management of people and planetary resources; and (3) not understanding (or caring) how our mindset and behavior affect the world.
We have the power to maintain this system. We also have power in change it. We can disempower and devolve ourselves into extinction. Or, we can empower and evolve. We are all involved in the awakening and / or the destroying process! We make it happen, not the "Big Daddy" in the sky. The world's fate is in OUR hands.
To foster change, we need to take charge of and stop surrendering our power to the corporation. One arena where change needs to happen is in education. Education is not about being indoctrinated for the sake of corporate welfare while engaging in low pay and benefits and longer working hours for their employees. By its epistemological definition, education literally means to "bring forth." Education is an evolutionary process that opens us to the potentials within. It is NOT about scores on a standardized test.
So, lets get corporations out of our children's lives and reclaim their future for the sake of what they have within them. Or, do we not care?
How do we change the world without the 'Man'? Simple, we go bottom up.
We begin that process with our children.
Could one factor in building children's strength and character arise through books? Dapo (pronounced "Dah-Po") Akers and Coleen Liebsch think so. They do this by promoting literacy, character building and local businesses by having businesses sponsor books for kids in the local neighborhood.
