Scrapping back the uber-thin layer of brain cells for those conscientiously following Rachel Madcow and eagerly awaiting the next episode of "Russiagate," I think I have arrived at the answer. Via watching an old video favorite of mine, which I did the other night.
You may have seen it, but if not or if it's been a while, I can only encourage you to make sure you check it soon. As in tonight, if possible. We so desperately need humor to stave off thoughts of suicide and "imbibicide" by whatever various means. Or at least I do.
I am referring to Blast from the Past, starring Christopher Walken and Sissy Spacek. Walkens is a mad scientist, circa 1963, from Cal Tech. He started inventing and getting patented and made enough money to drop out of the game and build a most serious bomb shelter. I recall my engineering Dad taking me to a bomb shelter about that time, that an engineering friend of his had built, to survive the obvious. I also recall hiding under my desk a few times a year in elementary school, in the event of a nuclear attack, even though we were told that even looking at a blast would burn our eyes and make us blind.
No matter. Here is the ultimate bomb shelter, that is made to last for 35 years! Everything set up most thoroughly, from a pharmacy to a grocery store, to a large tank for growing fish. Adam, as he was named appropriately by his mom, Sissy Spacek, was born and raised there. The day finally comes when he is allowed and encouraged to go above ground to check out the situation.
His science oriented dad went first, only to find the mutants we have actually become. Mom goes later and gets a delightful reaction as she represents "The Mother," coming after "The Father." Adam, "The Son," goes up next to get supplies for another several years, gets lost, and has a remarkable time adjusting to the new world.
A most hilarious comedy that shines a bright light on our present day "Russigaters," and their mentality, if it can be called such.
Without spoiling the ending, I'll end there, except for a link to the trailer, which is ok but does not do justice to the significance of the film. Here is the Russiagate mentality on steroids, though now more enhanced with the knowledge available at our fingertips, but ignored by utterly unthinking Americans and Madcow fans. If you never watched a movie before in your life, for whatever inconceivable reason, I'd say "Start here!" click here
