In my opinion Bill O'Reilly is the most despicable and dangerous person in America. He has survived bad everything (reviews, scandal, exposure, etc.) and continues chugging along. He will survive this latest controversy. His ratings and viewership will rise. His personal cache at FOX will be more powerful than it was a couple of weeks ago.
Bill O'Reilly is the worst sort of trash. He is the sort of trash that is consciously built. He has worked without rest at creating an oeuvre and persona built entirely on the ravaging and profaning of his occupation. He is, whether one considers him one or not, a journalist. He is the ultimate Anti-American. In a country built on the stories, myths and parables of National and personal honesty, integrity and sacrifice, Mr. O'Reilly is a self-pimp. If Bill O'Reilly were a private citizen and not a high profile journalist I would never paint him with pejoratives, I would support his right to say and do whatever he likes. However as a journalist, O'Reilly must be held to a higher standard and ,to preserve whatever integrity American Journalism has left, he must be held accountable by all means.
O'Reilly is the gross personification of everything we don't want our children or our country to be. He fouls our sacred national concept of what work means in America: he obliterates the spirit of Benjamin Franklin, Studs Terkel, Jesus and Jefferson every time he opens his mouth -- selfishly "working" entirely for treasure and self-aggrandizement. He, along with his colleagues at FOX, is willing to destroy the occupation he claims to work at and destroy healthy national dialogue for personal gain. He is a thief and an arsonist. He is a dire, dishonest hack as a journalist as David Corn and others have exposed. He has not worked with diligence, commitment and right intention at his chosen profession. He is a carpenter wielding a dildo instead of a hammer.
Every welder that has labored at getting a good bead, every doctor that has agonized over saving a life, every millwright that has bloodied his knuckles fixing a pump, every gardener that has lovingly prepared soil, every carpenter that has measured twice, every accountant that has reconciled into the night, every nurse that has cleaned a helpless patient, every actor that has learned his/her lines, every plumber that labors bent over frozen ground...every conscientious worker in this country should look upon Bill O'Reilly with the utmost contempt.
This country and its families were built on personal sacrifice and the unique vision of what work and its rewards could be. At a very young age both of my grandfathers instilled in me a work ethic of rightness--"If you're going to do it, do it right." I consequently went out into the world and recognized this way of being in diverse people wherever I went It may not be everywhere anymore and it has not always been lived up to, but it is the loom that has woven the fabric of America. When I contemplate my lifetime of hard work and the hard work and sacrifice of those around me I can only view O'Reilly and many of his colleagues at FOX as feral hogs, not unlike those that nightly ravage the Texas countryside.
