Joe Biden has said the time has passed for him to run. He's out. That will help Hillary, at least in the short run. Expect to see a bump in her polls as pollsters extract Biden from their polls-- something they should have done months ago.
The past polls that ran with and without Biden pretty routinely showed that Biden was drawing more from Clinton than from Sanders.
So, expect the next few days polls to show a bump in Hillary Clinton's lead. I don't think it is because she has earned it. It's because people who were choosing Biden first will be going with their second neoliberal candidate of choice-- Hillary. But I also think that those voters are going to more amenable to hearing more about Sanders.
In response to Biden's announcement, Hillary Clinton tweeted:
And Bernie Sanders issued this press release:
"Joe Biden, a good friend, has made the decision that he feels is best for himself, his family and the country. I thank the vice president for a lifetime of public service and for all that he has done for our nation. I look forward to continuing to work with him to address the major crises we face. He understands the need to rebuild the middle class; and to address income and wealth inequality, a corrupt campaign finance system, climate change, racial justice, immigration reform and the need for publicly-funded higher education.""
