Biden vs. Putin
I know that some of the members of the oped news are very progressive and do not like President Biden in contrast to more progressive politicians like Senator Sanders. However, we have to look at President Biden within the context of all American political forces in the U.S. good or bad.
The story of me and President Biden:
When John Kerry was running against W Bush, stakes were high. the war in Iraq was badly handled. The stories of deception, incompetence and corruption are well known. I did everything that I could to get Kerry elected but he lost. When I heard the news, I was in tears. I went to work in the morning, and I noticed a bunch of religious people singing something together. That was just too much after the election loss. I yelled at the nurses: "why these people are not in the chapel?" The head nurse knew me well. She sends them out and told me "You don't look good, go home, take the day off".
I went to my office; I wrote a letter to Senator Biden of that time. I begged him to run for office of presidency. I sent the letter with a $100 check. Time passed. When Hillary was running for office Biden did not run. His excuse was that after losing his son, he just did not have it. The real reason was that it was truly Hilary's turn to run. Hilary lost to that crazy Trump. I am sure if Biden was running against trump rather than Hillary he would have won.
When the last primary started Fox news and Trump were referring to Biden as demented. For many years, I made my living doing the differential diagnosis of Dementia. I knew he was ok, 80 years old but mentally fine. The combination of COVID and Trump's Lies caused him to lose. The help of African Americans was instrumental in Biden's victory.
Once in office he did what he was supposed to do. The extreme of left and all of the right were and are unhappy, but I did not take it too seriously.
I have been following American politics all my adult life. All presidents have minor problems with economy and foreign policy on their hand that they have to deal with. However, almost all of them run into a one or two big problems and that is when you know if they have back bone or not.
Carter (hostage crisis). Reagan (marine barracks in Beirut& Iran Contra affair). Bush senior (Saddam occupation of Kuwait. collapse of the Soviet Union). Clinton (initial severe recession, Yugoslavia & Monica Lewinsky). W. Bush (911, Afghanistan & Iraq). Obama (Iranian green movement, Ben Ghazi). Putin (COVID).
In case of Biden there has been problems that he has dealt with reasonably well, but the real thing happened when Putin was going to invade Ukraine and Biden stood up to him. People who do not like him minimize the problem, but the truth is that the tsar of Russia blinked. Next three years remain to be seen.
