Dear Friends: I was discussing the Sanders campaign with the most progressive mind in the NM Legislature and my favorite New Mexico State Senator, Jerry Ortiz y Pino, and told him about a disturbing observation and conclusion I had reached, and that is that almost all of the supporters with whom I have spoken and corresponded are very sluggish about recording their own ideas about their support and sending it to the editorial page editor of not only their own local papers, but to the editorial page editors in the states where it is going to be close, like North Carolina, Ohio, Michigan, and Florida. I see state senators "endorsing" Bernie, but without a written and very public commitment, what does it really mean? Not much, in truth.
Our New Mexico legislative session is almost over and then Senator Ortiz y Pino is going to rewrite an earlier one and send it out widely over New Mexico. I will make a point of sharing it widely, so that you could contact people in equivalent leadership positions and ask them to state their convictions widely, IN THE NEWSPAPERS IN THEIR AREA.
Each state's newspapers can be easily accessed on-line, in several excellent available lists for each state, which then in turn leads to the contact information for each paper, and the name of the person who selects the editorial page content.
Anyone can whoop it up in the social media, which often turns into a love fest for Bernie and a slug fest against everyone else, but what translates to strong opinions and facts that will push people off the fence? In my humble opinion of an old fashioned guy who knows by now how it works, the answer to that question is OPINION/EDITORIALS!
If you the reader wants to write one, great. Send it out widely right away, one paper at a time, not in a blast, and preferably after you take the time to call the editorial page editor of the paper you want it to run in. I am happy to help ANYONE edit and tweak their op/ed pieces.
