Sanders landed endorsements within the past week from the environmental group the Sunrise Movement and the advocacy group for people of color, Dream Defenders.

"We endorse Bernie Sanders because he stands for a Green New Deal," said Prakash at a rally in Iowa City, pointing out in her speech Bernie's focus on addressing climate change, racial inequity, immigration and health care. "Bernie's track record is consistent," read a statement from the Dream Defenders. "Throughout his career, he has pushed visionary ideas long before they were politically popular."

Earlier, the Sanders campaign received endorsements from the Center for Popular Democracy, People's Action, and several labor unions. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Rashida Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar, members of the "Squad" of progressive freshman congresswomen of color, have campaigned for Sanders both in their home states, as well as in early voting states.

Sanders' National Political Director Analilia Mejia:

"We earned those endorsements because of the long history of the senator fighting on behalf of and alongside these communities for issues they care about. We communicated extensively in regards to policy platforms and in regards to issue campaigns that they were working on, and we made them part of the campaign, even before they endorsed, by way of soliciting their input. What [endorsements] mean for our campaign is that we expand our capacity, we expand our ability to talk to voters, expand our reach within target communities, and we do so with organizations and leaders who have the respect and trust of potential voters for the senator."

She is an experienced director with a demonstrated history of working in the non-profit organization management industry, plus strong community and policy development experience; skilled in government affairs, electoral campaigns, issue advocacy, community organizing, and capacity building. Recognized locally and nationally as a progressive change maker, including by the Obama administration as a Champion of Change for the work undertaken on behalf of workers.

National immigrant rights group endorses Sanders

Make the Road Action, an immigrant rights group, is endorsing Bernie Sanders for president, lending the Vermont senator significant political muscle in the early caucus state of Nevada and a delegate-heavy group of northeastern states.

The 10-year-old organization, which mobilizes immigrants and minority communities for political action in Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania, has not previously endorsed candidates in presidential races. But the endorsement of Sanders, provided first to POLITICO, comes after a months-long process of evaluating Democratic campaign platforms and holding meetings with a number of candidates.
