Bernie, say it isn't so!
Endorsing Hillary next week? Why on earth would you do that?
Why are you stopping the year-long marathon three blocks from the finish line? Why are you turning your back on the 13 million voters who have fought media dismissal of you, who have stood by you through all the ridicule, and the eye-opening election fraud in several states, in the hopes of a better America with you at the helm?
If you throw in the towel now, before your name is placed in nomination at the Democratic Convention, and before your 1,846 pledged delegates cast their votes for this Jewish, self-professed Democratic socialist from Brooklyn NY and Vermont, you are denying your place in history.
History records, celebrates, the second-place finishers. The Olympics. The Boston Marathon. But not if they drop out short of the finish line.
What difference would it make if you waited for the Convention?
A lot of difference. A whole lot of difference.
For starters, you are letting the Super Delegates off the hook. Everyone now knows that, because neither you nor Hillary have enough pledged delegates to claim the nomination outright, and because of the way the Democrats rigged the primary process, the Super Delegates are the ones who will pick the nominee this year.
With the rapidly evolving political situation, those Super Delegates (including all the House members who met with you recently) don't want to be responsible for picking Hillary over you. They've seen the polls. Hillary will lose to Trump in November. You would win against Trump in November.
But they are party regulars, they're stuck. Loyalty is revered inside the Democratic Party, and they are insiders. They can't put the country ahead of their party, it will cost them in future elections. You are a faux-Democrat, with no attachment to the Democratic Party (like the millions of newcomers and young people who joined the party just to vote for you).
If you drop out and endorse Hillary, it will be your decision, not theirs, that put her in the top spot. If you drop out now, they're off the hook.
I don't want them off the hook.
Particularly in the 22 states you won outright, from the state of Maine to the state of Washington, I want the super delegates in those states who have professed support for Clinton to actually cast their super delegate votes at the Convention. I want them to be on record that they value their standing in the Democratic Party hierarchy more than they value the choice made by rank-and-file Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents in their home states who made it clear they want Bernie Sanders on their November ballot.
On top of that, Bernie, the political situation is changing rapidly. The concern of the Super Delegates over Hillary's viability as a candidate against Trump developed even before the FBI indicted her this week, politically if not legally, citing her poor judgment, dishonesty, and astonishing carelessness that may have put the USA at risk. (Hillary has finally admitted it was a mistake, and she won't do it again.)
FBI Director James Comey, in the course of his explanation, made it clear in a very carefully worded statement that the decision not to indict was because Hillary was Hillary, not because she hadn't done anything actionable, by warning that other people in the same situation might well not end up the same way.
