America is our ship
On course or off course.
When on course,
We do not throw more slaves into
the galley
Like the ancient Romans,
So let us shovel more vigor into
the boiler.
When off course,
Let us lead a peaceful mutiny for
change
And steer our ship back on course
With the Constitution as our
compass.
Let our heading be the path of
human rights
For our flag stands for freedom.
Let all hands have operations
Aboard America's ship.
From our crow's nest,
Let us be vigilant
Of oncoming threats,
But we can only speculate
What lies beyond the horizon.
If our dead reckoning calls for a
change of course,
Let us plot a better course.
During our passage
To peace and prosperity under
liberty,
When we encounter heavy seas,
Pitching and rolling
Or foundering,
Let us have courage as our keel
And dump all fears overboard.
Then we will be ready for every
challenge,
Then we will never surrender,
And then we will always prevail
At any cost.
