All The Signs Are Here... It's Time For Us To Act

by Peter Theis

Returning to the USA after living 10 years abroad, I see so much degradation, erosion, and decline of America, it's really frightening.  We are already living in a system of inverted totalitarianism that could easily tilt into a more direct and vicious totalitarianism if we do not inform ourselves and take action quickly.

One of the most insightful and cogent thinkers on what is happening with the United States is Chris Hedges .  He and others like Derrick Jensen and Amy Goodman need to be listened to, and very closely.  In his article...

Zero Point Of Economic Collapse

...Hedges writes:  "Inverted totalitarianism, unlike classical totalitarianism, does not revolve around a demagogue or charismatic leader.  It finds expression in the anonymity of the Corporate State."

Benito Mussolini correctly said:  "Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power."

The inability to see the signs of our failing society -- the rise of the surveillance state; the escapism of spectacle; the dramatic reduction of civil liberties and human rights; a hyper-emphasis on the psychopathy of militarism; the propagandization and tight control of the media; the fragmentation of society into contentious groups; vast disparities in wealth, power, and voice; the destruction of education's ability to teach critical thinking; the fundamentalism of theocracy or hedonism -- is cognitive dissonance, pure and simple.

I don't enjoy thinking about or seeing these things.  No one does.  But unless we understand what's really going on and take action we're going to face some very terrible things in the near future.

If evidence will sway us out of this cognitive dissonance, consider at the following:

Eternal Fascism: Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt

Refusing to see these truths and to take immediate and sustained action to resist "unchecked corporate capitalism," Hedges says, in his article...

Resist or Become Serfs

...will result in our enslavement.  "Our anemic democracy will be replaced with a robust national police state."
