The newly elected Governor of Alabama, Dr. Robert Bentley, recently said, "Now I will have to say that, if we don't have the same daddy, we're not brothers and sisters. Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother or sister, and I want to be your brother." He also said, "If the holy spirit lives in you that makes you my brothers and sisters. Anyone who has not accepted Jesus, I want to be your brothers and sisters, too." (This last statement makes him sound like he's confused sexually.)
Bentley was elected governor with the help of televangelist and charlatan Pat Robertson's Christian Coalition. (It's important to remember that Governor Bob McDonnell of Virginia is another Christian politician with ties to Pat Robertson and the religious right.) When he was a state representative Bentley pleased the Christian Coalition so much that they awarded him the Christian Coalition of Alabama's Statesmanship Award.
If we are to stop this onslaught by the religious right we need to shine the light of reason on the cornerstone of the movement: Christianity and its Bible. The sincere Christians who are the backbone of the religious right need to be confronted with the reality of choosing between man-made religious dogma found in Christianity and the Bible or their God-given reason. One way of doing this is to let them know the Bible is full of promises which are false. Governor Bentley has given us the opportunity to do just that!
Since Bentley is a Bible and Gospel believing Christian with the holy spirit living in him we need to ask Bentley and the millions of Christians in the religious right why he doesn't follow the teachings of the Christian Bible and heal the sick throughout Alabama and the United States. This is a VERY VALID question for Bentley and for all Christians. If they truly take the Bible seriously and truly BELIEVE in its promises there is no reason whatsoever why they do not heal all of the sick people, not only in Alabama and the U.S., but all of the sick people throughout the world.
Mark 16:18 plainly states that anyone who believes the gospels and who is baptized "shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." Knowing this Bible promise, I can't understand why Bentley became a physician.
In James 5:14-15 the Bible instructs Christians as follows: "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him." This Bible promise is painfully false. If it were true there wouldn't be a person on Earth who was not a Christian.
Pat Robertson and his son Gordon often offer prayers of healing for their supporters on the 700 Club. However, as the picture above shows, Pat Robertson himself prefers to use medical science and doctors instead of the Biblical promise of faith-healing. In the picture he was at the doctor's office for knee problems. But Pat isn't shy about using doctors for other medical problems. Remember a couple of years ago when Pat needed heart surgery. Did he rely on Christian Bible based prayer? Hell no, he went to a heart specialist and had 10 hours of surgery! This shows that Pat is making fools out of his followers. And his followers need to know!
It's time for all freethinkers and Deists to stop pulling punches! We need to show Christians and the world that Christianity and the Bible are based on nothing but superstitions and myths, that not even Christian leaders rely on them in their own personal lives! Since this is a reality, it's also a reality that the Bible and Christianity can't bring us any closer to God. How can we expect to get closer to God and to learn more about God by chasing after such empty meaningless dribble??? The only way people can get closer to God is to embrace their God-given gift of reason and exploit it to the fullest! This is what Deism is about!
