Pakistan is going to provide arms to the tribesmen, who rose against terrorism and militancy in tribal areas. A report published in Washington Post revealed that Pakistan has purchased rifles from China to be distributed among the tribesmen. Majority of tribal elders opposed the plan of providing more arms to tribesmen. The tribal society has been weaponised during the Afghan war and now we have been facing the consequences of that move. Provision of more weapons to tribesmen means creation of more terrorists in the region. The only solution to the terrorism problem is the rule of law. Actually rulers of Pakistan enjoying full support of their US masters are not ready to accept rule of law. The country has a constitution and courts of law, but rulers are not ready to accept the constitution and rule of law. It is due to misadventurism of the rulers of Pakistan that now terrorism is a big problem of the world.
Pakistan plans to arm tens of thousands of anti-Taliban tribal fighters in its western border region in hopes -- shared by the U.S. military -- that the nascent militias can replicate the tribal "Awakening" movement that proved decisive in the battle against al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The militias, called lashkars, will receive Chinese-made AK-47Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistani officials said. assault rifles and other small arms, a purchase arranged during a visit to Beijing this month by Pakistani President
Many Bush administration officials remain skeptical of Pakistan's long-term commitment to fighting the Taliban, al-Qaeda and other extremist groups ensconced in the mountains near the border with Afghanistan. But the decision to arm the lashkars, which emerged as organized fighting forces only in the past few months, is one of several recent actions that have led the Pentagon to believe that the Pakistani effort has become more aggressive.- Advertisement -
Since early August, the Pakistani army has launched several offensives in Bajaur, one of seven regions in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), and in the nearby Swat Valley. According to Pakistani military assessments, more than 800 insurgents died during fighting in Bajaur in August and September, along with nearly 195 government soldiers and 344 civilians.

Most of the tribal elders think that provision of weapons to tribesmen and creating anarchy in tribal areas aim at giving time to top Al-Qaeda leaders to flee from the scene. The only answer to terrorism is the rule of law. The sooner the rulers accept this fact the better it will be. The people of tribal areas do not need weapons. They need education. According to tribal elders, if five percent of the amount which is spent on war is diverted to peace then there will be no problem of terrorism. The main reason of terrorism is the rampant corruption. The Pakistani rulers will receive huge kickbacks in the purchase of weapons for the tribesmen. Wrong priorities of the rulers are the main reason of present choas and anarchy in the whole world. At least the Voice For Peace opposes the plan of arming tribesmen. It thinks a proper force should be created in tribal areas for maintaining law and order there. Weaponisation of tribesmen is not the solution to the problem. It might be an effort to further strengthen Al-Qaeda in tribal areas.
