Ahed Tamimi was 16 when she became a worldwide symbol of Palestinian resistance after she slapped an Israeli soldier in front of her home in the occupied West Bank and was subsequently jailed by the Israelis.

Now 17, she was released from Israeli prison on July 29, 2018, in an emotional day. American journalist Dena Takruri, host of the award-winning docuseries "Direct From with Dena Takruri," and producer with AJ+, Al Jazeera Media Network's all-digital video news network covered that chaotic day and interviewed Ahed the day after.

In this interview, published in October, Ahed shares about the events of the day that led to her arrest, her experience in prison, her hopes for the future, and her thoughts on Palestinian resistance, noting, "Since I was young, my parents raised me to never be silent in the face of wrongdoing."

-Desmond Tutu

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

-Martin Luther King

If I were to remain silent, I'd be guilty of complicity.

- Albert Einstein

I learned the courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.
