Agriculture as a dangerously unrecognized human rights issue. A letter to Obama from Sally Fallon

Message Linn Cohen-Cole

Sally Fallon and the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund are leading the battle to protect raw milk dairy farmers from being destroyed by the USDA and against NAIS, so I expected her letter to be about either or both of those.

Instead, she has written this astoundingly compassionate letter about
prisoners.  For me, it exposes not only what is happening to them but how actually dangerous our food has become.

The silent message in this letter is against industrial agriculture and on
on behalf of family farmers and real food ... and us.

I hope people here will understand that and see all the many ways what has happened to food is rippling out cruelly to everyone -  whether it is a diet in prisons that kills people who have a right to get out after they have
done their time, or a 90% increased rate of new diabetes that is maiming
and killing across the country, or processed foods of all kinds full of unlabeled GMOs, pesticides, antibiotics, steroids and hormones and emptier and emptier of "real" nutrients (though increasingly full of synthetic ones.

When we see we are all being affected and in this together - the
imprisoned, the farmers, the children, the city people, the elderly - then
we'll start to get somewhere.

So, take a moment to feel for someone doing their time, whose children wait for years for them to be released, and their unnecessarily dying.

Why are people dying?

Because Big Ag is feeding them.  (And us.)

Take a moment to think of all the glowing ads for soy ... and how it is
genetically engineered now and almost exclusively owned by Monsanto in this country (and they have eliminated normal soy and now are picking off seed cleaners state to state so there will be nothing BUT their GE-soy).

Take a moment to feel for yourselves because Monsanto has pushed laws across the country taking away the democratic rights of YOUR communities (and farmers) to stop the planting of GE-crops.

"Consumers and farmers from California to New England have been
taking action over the past years to protect their local communities from
genetic pollution by passing local, city, and county ordinances banning
genetically engineered (GE) crops. Cities, counties and townships have
passed such laws to assure the health, safety, and welfare of their
communities, while exercising their democratic right to local control.

"In response to these ordinances and resolutions, the biotech
industry and corporate agribusiness are striking back with a vengeance. 15 states have recently passed "Monsanto laws" taking away the rights of cities and counties to ban GE crops. Now legislators in California, Missouri, Nebraska, and North Carolina are facing the lobbying power of the biotech industry and are threatening to pass controversial "preemption" laws that would take away local rights to regulate GMOs"

Met libertarian and conservative farmers and learned an incredible amount about farming and nature and science, as well as about government violations against them and against us all. The other side of the fence is nothing like what we've been (more...)
