As a restaurant owner herself and a frequent diner at the Upper West, Singer said she was impressed with the food. She pointed out that their ingredients are sourced locally, which makes for an exceptional dining experience. "My husband can't get enough of the braised short ribs... and their salads are all wonderful," said Singer. When asked about exhibiting her art at her own restaurant, she replied, "I have a few pieces of my art hanging at the restaurants but we do not have the space to show art. So, being invited to show art at Upper West is a real treat for me."
Singer said she has always admired the rotation art exhibitions at the Santa Monica eatery. "I have seen many great artists exhibit there over the past 4 years. It has inspired me." Singer will be showing her latest work with several of her earlier pieces as part of "AffirmSheArt." "This is the first art opening I will attend at Upper West, but it definitely will not be my last." Painting is relatively new for the artist. She explained that she first started dabbling with paint in 2009 after an ovarian-cancer diagnosis. Creating art became a positive, healing experience for Singer. "Who knew that this would be a part of my healing... then and now," said Singer. Her experience has inspired her to continue creating. Working primarily with acrylic paints, she also uses oil pastels and mark-making tools. She also incorporates stencils, mixed media, and digital images that she creates in Photoshop.
