Northrop Grumman B-2 bomber
This "one" caught my eye this morning as I was riding the local Metro train.
As I sat down, displayed before me was the following advertisement. A 3' square color poster, with a picture of a pert, early 20's, good looking white female, dressed very smartly and holding what looked like a daily appointment book and above her head was the word, "Commitment" in 3" block lettering across the top of the poster and in smaller script the name, "Northrop Grumman".
Below her picture, in smaller lettering read the following: "Northrop Grumman, when the world calls for commitment, Northrop Grumman stands with our warfighters to defend America."
Now, "Northrop Grumman is the 4 th largest defense contractor in the world, manufacturing all sorts of defense weaponry "goodies" including aircraft carriers, the B-2 bomber, weaponized drones, jet fighters, missile defense systems, satellites, sophisticated radar systems-basically everything in the US military arsenal. It's a monster corporation reporting $24.661 billion gross sales in 2013. [i]
As I read the ad a number of thoughts came to mind, as in "When the world calls for commitment", which world was the ad referring to? The Muslim world, the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, Iran, Russia, Iraq again and now Syria, Afghanistan; how about the ethnic Russian people under siege and being bombarded by the American inspired post coup regime in Kiev; the Japanese on Okinawa that detest the American military presence on their island. How about Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia. Pakistan-the list isn't endless but"then again, what country in the world is honestly calling for American military commitment?
Then I thought "warfighters"? Hmm! Who are they and what exactly are they fighting for? Against Muslim jihadists like ISIS and before them al Qaeda, all created by the US beginning in Afghanistan in the 1980's supporting and supplying arms to Osama bin Laden and his Arab Mujahedeen, then compounded in "Dubya's" war and occupation in Iraq and his global war on terror. Then of course there was Iraq's Saddam Hussein "our boy" in his war with Iran in those same 1980's, but then he went out of favor when he invaded Kuwait in 1991-though he initially was given the okay by US Ambassador to Iraq April Glaspie as the Kuwaiti's were illegally drilling horizontally into Iraqi oil wells-but Bush the elder disagreed and he initiated the Gulf war in 1991 to oust our previous "friend", now "enemy" Saddam Hussein from Kuwait.
Think about it; since the end of WWII in 1945, the end of the cold war when the Soviet Union ceased to exist, even though we fought the Korean War between 1950 and 53, falsely escalated the Vietnam War in 1965 plus other assorted little skirmishes like Grenada, there has been NO imminent threats to America that requires any of our "warfighters" to defend America.
It's all hokum, trumped up hysteria to make the population fearful of the "enemies" official Washington conjures up, ably abetted by the Pentagon and its war contractors which benefits handsomely from our engagement in war, and giddily with our endless war.
But getting back to the poster ad-that inspired this short little excursion highlighting some of the US more glaring misadventures and folly- one might ask "what's the big deal?"
Maybe it's not a big deal; with all the advertising and marketing appeals placed before our eyes every day, most people might possibly glance at it briefly and think nothing of it.
But that poster is symbolic of what's been happening in this country, which I wrote about the other day, "Indoctrination in America", OPEDNEWS, October 29, 2014.
The blatant propaganda indoctrination with the government and its complicit MSM inducing fear in people of whatever "enemies" are conjured up and made to "appear" as if they pose a threat to America so we have to send our "warfighters" to defend America; it's all of the same piece.
Add in the NSA's electronic surveillance of everyone, everywhere and Orwell's "1984" has arrived.
