I try to stay away from the television when President Obama makes a speech or holds a press conference. The reason for this is that he is quite simply the best speaker I have ever heard in my lifetime. This is a man that could convince people that Adolf Hitler was a pacifist and that The Son of Sam was just a misunderstood young man that just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I try not to watch the President because I have a sneaking suspicion that he has been a CIA asset for most of his life. I believe that his mother was a CIA asset also, although I have no way of proving any of thisbut I also believe that Cheney, Rumsfield and Wolfowitz were also spooks. Still, this has nothing whatsoever to do with this article.

What I actually want to talk about is a curious happenstance that has been going on since I decided to give political articles a break. You see, I'm concentrating on a new novel. I find that writing fiction is easier when I stay away from writing politically. Staying away from politics hasn't been as easy as it used to be. This is what I wish to share with you.

I stopped writing about political things after Mr. Charm signed the National Defense Appropriations Act that allows the military to arrest American civilians and hold them indefinitly until this "War on Terror" is over which, like the "War on Drugs", will never be over. Still, from time to time I Google my name to see what people are saying about me or to see if someone has written something under my name (which has happened).

I was very surprised to see a number of things that came up under my name, some good, some not so good.I discovered that keeping a low profile on the internet is not so easy, even after you stop writing. Some articles that I have written months ago popped up. One of these articles; Beginning of a second US revolution

http://www.nation.com.pk/pakistan-news-newspaper-daily-english-online/Reporter/timothy-v-gatto , was picked up by The Nation. That was a nice surprise considering that they listed me a a reporter. You can't complain when an article is picked up by The Nation.
Some other articles were a bit disconcerting. Alex Jones used one of my articles to back up a point in an interview with Lyndon LaRouch. Nuclear Armageddon if WWIII Starts: Lyndon LaRouche Reports) Another quote was used to introduce a website on psywars with Howard Zinn (can't complain about that).
There were more articles that came up on Google. The point I'm trying to make is that writers should Google themselves, even when they are not writing. You never know what is going to come out of it. One time, during a bout with cancer, I was going through a particularly painful time and my oncologist put me on oxycontyin. A week later I found a piece written about me that described my "secret" drug addiction. (This was during the Bush years).
Nothing on the web is sacrosanct. Everything is fair game Look at Valerie Plame. If you are going to write, especially political articles, you need to grow a thick skin.
BTW, Think I'll get paid for that byline?
