A Letter to Hillary Clinton

You surely do not recall me, Hillary, but I was one of your husband's volunteer economists in 1992; and my wife and I met you again in New Hampshire when you were running for president in 2008. So we go back quite a ways.

Fast forwarding to the present, I have written your campaign several times, via email, telling them that asking for donations several times a day is annoying and counterproductive -- not to mention that some of the incentives to give are downright silly. I even told your staff, for example, that peddling car magnets is obsolete, as most cars stopped having metal dashboards some years ago. Your campaign's non-response was rather deafening -- not even a form acknowledgement of my email, just "the sounds of silence." But that is no big deal.
What is a big deal, though, are your recent unfair and untrue attacks upon your primary opponent Senator Bernie Sanders as he begins to approach your own poll numbers, and even take the lead. As a former Vermonter, I have followed Bernie over the years -- and he is far from the slavering gun lover you have been portraying. Bernie has admitted that he found some gun control legislation so flawed that he did not vote for it -- but that does not at all make him the pawn of the NRA as you have portrayed him to be recently. When someone is big enough to admit that he might have made a mistake, hammering him over that alleged mistake is unjustified, and even shameful.
Now, though, you are going a step further by having your daughter Chelsea join your campaign and then pound Bernie for a stance on Obamacare which Bernie has never taken. In my logic course, that is called "creating a straw man" -- first misstating someone's position and then tearing down that falsified position. That would be bad enough when you do it, but using your own daughter in a misguided attempt to tear down Bernie Sanders is despicable.
If you do not mend your ways, Hillary, you are in danger of emulating the despicable Donald Trump. Take heed. To paraphrase Milton: what does it profit a woman, if she gains the presidency at cost of her own soul? You can DO better -- and you must BE far better, to deserve the trust of the American people.
