A Good New Morning, A Good New President; "On The Pulse of The Morning"
Good Morning
On November 4th, we will participate in one of the most important elections of our lifetimes. We have less than two weeks to go. At this late stage of the campaign, the tone of the campaign historically gets sharp and nasty. The opposing sides pull out the heavy artillery. That is the nature of Politics. We see that happening now with the desperate attacks and negative rhetoric of John McCain and Sarah Palin. McCain has pulled off the gloves and is showing why he was nicknamed McNasty, and Sarah Palin has bared her petulant pitbull fangs and her "jungle red"  lipstick and claws and gone on the attack. The Bush-Rove fear tactics and the false insidious smears against Barack Obama have become more virulent, vicious, and even more rampant than we have seen before.

One of our political group members mentioned Barack Obama's graduate thesis in a posting.  I, for one, would be interested in reading that thesis, as I want to learn more about our likely next president including his Academic opinions. I want to compare, contrast, and point out that both Obama and Joe Biden have law degrees with honors, while John McCain graduated near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy.  Sarah Palin attended at least five different colleges before she finally earned her Bachelor's degree in Journalism, reportedly with a low C average. She was not admitted to Graduate School. The disparity of the opposing tickets in Academic achievement and intellect is clear. Hockey Moms do not World Leaders make. John McCain has shown his appallingly poor judgment in choosing her as his running mate and possible successor.
Our thoughts are with Barack Obama and his family today as he travels to Hawaii to visit his ailing Grandmother who helped raise him. May his time with her and with his family be positive, productive, and relished.
As you may know, I am working hard to help get Barack Obama elected and to help end the illegal and unwanted occupation of Iraq, and my own personal strategy to those ends includes smearing the McCain-Palin ticket by exposing the truth of their documented lies, falures, shortcomings, and corruption. The criminal and illegal McBush wars, bank deregulation, the Economic crisis, the Keating Five, Adultery, Abandonment, Troopergate, Travelgate, and now Palin's Wardrobegate are all tools that we can and should use to help undecided voters make up their minds, and frankly sway them to vote for Obama-Biden. John McCain and Sarah Palin are out of touch and are simply not qualified to hold the offices they seek. Wo not need four more years of the failed Bush policies they advocate.

We must fight back against the McCain-Palin Lipstick Smears against Barack Obama and expose them as false in order to win this election. Please talk to people and tell them you are voting for Barack Obama and why you are certain he is the better choice. Compare McCain to Bush. Tell people that the smears they have heard about Barack Obama are not true. I caution you to be civil, and not flame or insult other voters even when you disagree with them. Let's recall, evoke, and renew the Clinton Administration's message of hope from the 1992 campaign.
Flame the candidates, and the failed Bush Administration, but not each other. Please keep up the good work, fight the good fight. Hope for change. Hope for peace.
The debates are over, and our mission now is to get the voters out in large numbers, help undecided voters make the right choice, and to help prevent voter fraud and suppression. Please join me in this effort. Let's  get to work and Rock The Vote together. www.rockthevote.org

On The Pulse Of Morning
by Maya Angelou

Delivered January 19, 1993
at the Inauguration of President Clinton

A Rock, A River, A Tree
Hosts to species long since departed,
Mark the mastodon.
The dinosaur, who left dry tokens
Of their sojourn here
On our planet floor,
Any broad alarm of their hastening doom
Is lost in the gloom of dust and ages.
But today, the Rock cries out to us, clearly, forcefully,
Come, you may stand upon my
Back and face your distant destiny,
But seek no haven in my shadow.
I will give you no hiding place down here.
You, created only a little lower than
The angels, have crouched too long in
The bruising darkness,
Have lain too long
Face down in ignorance.
Your mouths spelling words
Armed for slaughter.
The rock cries out today, you may stand on me,
But do not hide your face.
Across the wall of the world,
A river sings a beautiful song,
Come rest here by my side.
Each of you a bordered country,
Delicate and strangely made proud,
Yet thrusting perpetually under siege.
Your armed struggles for profit
Have left collars of waste upon
My shore, currents of debris upon my breast.
Yet, today I call you to my riverside,
If you will study war no more.
Come, clad in peace and I will sing the songs
The Creator gave to me when I
And the tree and stone were one.
Before cynicism was a bloody scar across your brow
And when you yet knew you still knew nothing.
The river sings and sings on.
There is a true yearning to respond to
The singing river and the wise rock.
So say the Asian, the Hispanic, the Jew,
The African and Native American, the Sioux,
The Catholic, the Muslim, the French, the Greek,
The Irish, the Rabbi, the Priest, the Sheikh,
The Gay, the Straight, the Preacher,
The privileged, the homeless, the teacher.
They hear. They all hear
The speaking of the tree.
Today, the first and last of every tree
Speaks to humankind. Come to me, here beside the river.
Plant yourself beside me, here beside the river.
Each of you, descendant of some passed on
Traveler, has been paid for.
You, who gave me my first name,
You Pawnee, Apache and Seneca,
You Cherokee Nation, who rested with me,
Then forced on bloody feet,
Left me to the employment of other seekers--
Desperate for gain, starving for gold.
You, the Turk, the Swede, the German, the Scot...
You the Ashanti, the Yoruba, the Kru,
Bought, sold, stolen, arriving on a nightmare
Praying for a dream.
Here, root yourselves beside me.
I am the tree planted by the river,
Which will not be moved.
I, the rock, I the river, I the tree
I am yours--your passages have been paid.
Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need
For this bright morning dawning for you.
History, despite its wrenching pain,
Cannot be unlived, and if faced with courage,
Need not be lived again.
Lift up your eyes upon
The day breaking for you.
Give birth again
To the dream.
Women, children, men,
Take it into the palms of your hands.
Mold it into the shape of your most
Private need. Sculpt it into
The image of your most public self.
Lift up your hearts.
Each new hour holds new chances
For new beginnings.
Do not be wedded forever
To fear, yoked eternally
To brutishness.
The horizon leans forward,
Offering you space to place new steps of change.
Here, on the pulse of this fine day
You may have the courage
To look up and out upon me,
The rock, the river, the tree, your country.
No less to Midas than the mendicant.
No less to you now than the mastodon then.
Here on the pulse of this new day
You may have the grace to look up and out
And into your sister's eyes,
Into your brother's face, your country
And say simply
Very simply
With hope
Good morning.

Together, we can change the world, one mind at a time.
Have a great day,
