To all the educated folks of the US:
Dear folks,
This article will not be a calm, analytical one. As a scientist I know how to write cool, concise, distinct articles. People would read such an article, admire my style and prowess; then they would forget it. People like to forget. This one has a goal to disturb the reader so much, that he/she should not be able to forget, no matter how hard he/she tries. Get afraid and do something. There isn't much time left.
A. We are betraying our country and our people
Dear educated people of the US, we are betraying our country and our people. We are also betraying ourselves in the process, and unless we wake up and smell the coffee, we will all die a violent death. The bell tolls for us. It is up to us, though to make it the victory toll or the toll of doom.
We live now under fascism in the US. It is not some kind of a dystopia; it is real and we are its enablers. There are many definitions of fascism, but the following one can be directly attributed to the people like us.
-Under fascism the everyday life activity, from waking up to going to sleep becomes a series of malicious acts.
Recently one development made me especially upset. City of Huntsville, Alabama, is one of the centers of NASA space operations. NASA Marshall is there. It is a hub of highly educated, intellectual people, the US techno-cultural elite. Yet those folks were silent when Alabama invoked the anti-women "law" recently. The space people suddenly went numb. Same happened with the universities.
The very similar phenomena took place before in Nazi Germany: total spiritual castration of the academia and industrial elite in the face of advancing barbarism.
At the same time, the spiritual alchemists are "filled with passionate intensity", per Yates's "Second Coming". People like Franklin Graham, Liberty University cabal, other pseudo-educational establishments-they howl, praising Trump and Trumpism; they are invigorated and are genuinely happy with the success of their cause. What is our cause, I wonder?
Many years ago I watched an old movie. In it a well-to-do lawyer lives in the German-occupied Czechoslovakia. The German administration announces that young people must go to Germany to work. His two sons are targeted. And he can do nothing. He then starts remembering how many times he could interfere before, when the country was not occupied, how he arrogantly dismissed politics, how he pretended to be objective about "both sides", how he lied to himself and his family oh, so many times. And then the barbarians came; now they want his children and he cannot protect them.
We all are on the brink of that fate. We need to recognize the threat, abandon the self-deceit and embrace the coordinated action.
