Responding to my article on why Westerners join ISIS, our contributor living in Syria commented on a May 3, 2014 by Elliot Ackerman, who spent five tours in Iraq and Aghanistan. www.thedailybeast.com/contributors/elliot-ackerman.html:
This is a young man, who is officially listed as an advisor to Pres. Obama, a highly decorated soldier and officer. He now calls himself a journalist. He states that his home is Washington, DC but that he currently lives in Southern Turkey. "Southern Turkey" is a code-word for "living with the radical Islamic terrorists who are killing in Syria".
Ackerman writes about American soldiers like him who are currently living in Southern Turkey. They frequent bars, sleep with Turkish women, and have no religious affiliation. They are trained and decorated soldiers who have served various tours of duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Out of service, they miss the smell of human blood on their hands, so they fight with ISIS, Jibhat al Nusra, Islamic Front or the Free Syrian Army.[tag]
I don't mind Elliot Ackerman writing this story and bringing to our attention that there are some very warped US citizens killing in Syria, because it is a journalist's job to find the hard facts. But Elliot glorified them, and even wrote that he admired them for living out their dream, no matter where it took them. Well, I object, since they are killing my unarmed neighbors sleeping in their beds at night.
You may have seen the recent photo that UK MP George Galloway posted online, showing a ISIS soldier who mistakenly had his shirt sleeve pushed up too high, and revealed his US ARMY tattoo. You must admit that many ISIS soldiers are indeed Americans, with no Arab ancestors, who never have and never wiill be Muslims. These are US mercenaries, there either for a paycheck or in the employ of the CIA. ISIS didn't create itself, it is not a grassroots group. It is a CIA organization, just like the Mujahideen in Afghanistan was back in the Osama bin Laden days.
Did ISIS get too big for the CIA to handle? Or is the CIA in control and directing everything? I don't know. I attach the photo showing Senator John McCain in the Free Syrian Army meeting with Selim Idriss, then Commander in Chief of the FSA (white strip shirt with glasses). Sitting near him on the sofa in black shirt and slacks is Abdul Rahman al Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS who is now called Caliph. This photo was taken on May 23, 2013 in the Idlib, Syrian countryside, about an hour and a half drive from my home.
Immediately after this meeting John McCain went back to work in Congress and demanded that they send cash and weapons to the FSA. The bill passed, and the weapons and cash were delivered to the FSA in the south of Turkey during the last week of August and the first week of September, 2013. The weapons were immediately handed over from the FSA to Al Qaeda. Congress went crazy. They had been worried that would happen, and it did. I was happy, because I thought for sure that would be the last time the US Congress would send weapons to the FSA. But, more than a year later they are demanding that more weapons and cash be sent to the FSA, even though the FSA no longer exists, having pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Here's another interesting item: When John McCain was meeting with the FSA in May 2013, they gave him a 'wish-list'. Among other things, they wanted a fleet of Nissan trucks, which they claimed could be used for fighting as well as humanitarian purposes. McCain assured them the trucks would be delivered, and indeed they were, in Southern Turkey. The fleet of Nissan trucks shown in all the ISIS attacks and travels in Iraq are those very trucks. If you were to ask John McCain about this, he would claim that the US sent the cash, weapons and trucks to the FSA, but that other unknown terrorist groups seized them, through no fault of the US or the FSA. Sure .....
In conclusion, the political ideology called Radical Islam is the basis of all the Syrian rebels called 'The Free Syrian Army'. But I believe that most of Al Qaeda, their affiliates, as well as the Muslim Brotherhood, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Erdogan party of Turkey, and the Emir of Qatar all follow Radical Islam as a political ideology, and not as a religion. However, I am not sure that all of ISIS follows Radical Islam. ISIS may be America's Army in the Middle East, the new version of US boots on the ground.
