"I Had a Dream - No, More Like a Nightmare!"

by Charles L. Riccillo

With all due respect to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I woke today from not just one, but two unsavory dreams.

Understand me, please.  They were entirely non-Freudian. I know that both referenced the economy and Wall Street’s current downward spiral and our futile attempts to bail it out at tax payers expense!

The first was merely a sensation of being helplessly adrift in psychic quicksand - frightening enough unto itself.

But, in the second one, as is often true for me for me as an actor, I was someone else - Tom Skerrit.

It seems that I, with a lady companion and family, kept building houses, over and over again, always atop someplace where other homes existed - still occupied beneath us.  Of course, we felt we had no choice, other than sufficating those poor souls, like a new, conquering civilization building atop another.

Yet, no matter how we altered our construction techniques, our structure would collapse into ruin.

At dreams end, I’d devised a metal grid system which tipped the houses back from the threatening abyss, in an attempt to keep them from sliding right off a mountainside!

Ah yes, the mind does often offer its truth in adept metaphors.

I woke to find my neice and Godchild, Lacey, visiting, and I recounted the dream to her.

"Yeah," said she, "that certainly falls into the category of precognition!"

Without doubt, my concern about the economy was ‘acting out’ like an unruly child in my subconscious.

After all, I had just received, the week before, an account summary from Chase, detailing a zero balance, zero due, and zilch available credit - where the month before there had been over $20,000 available to buy!

The current President certainly overextended our credit by billions on the bloody Iraq war!  But no one is even mentioning that!
