Copyrighted Image? DMCA | A series of scandals that began last year with the abuse of young recruits at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland has roiled the Pentagon and stoked calls to remove the discretion over sex-assault cases from the hands of commanders.
Another Lackland instructor was accused in a hearing Wednesday of sexual assaulting one woman and having sex with six other trainees. Also Wednesday, a House panel voted to strip commanders of their centuries-old power to void court-martial convictions. The legislation grew out of congressional fury in April over a general's decision to toss out a jury's conviction of aggravated sexual assault against a fighter pilot. |
