"At least 18 Afghans -- including a policeman and several children -- were killed in two deadly suicide attacks, one of which struck the city of Kabul as newly appointed US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel was visiting a nearby military base."

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, shortly after the explosions, victims of which included eight teenage boys, claimed responsibility for the attack stating "The attack was a message to him" in reference to an already troubled visit by Chuck Hagel with Afghanistan leaders.
