Former diplomat Carne Ross believes that the Occupy movement and the power of ordinary people taking action can change the course of history and break the grip in which the wealthiest and most powerful 1 percent hold major world governments.
On this week's "Moyers and Company" with Bill Moyers, Ross made a persuasive case for the notion that governments are increasingly out of touch and beholden to the wealthy. A lifelong diplomat, Ross has worked for the British foreign service as lead man in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and was part of the push the invade Iraq. It was the Iraq episode that caused Ross to break with government. Ross believes that major world bodies like the United Nations simply aren't competent to handle the current crop of world problems, and that the solution lies in the empowerment of ordinary people and activist movements like Occupy Wall Street. |
