Barry Burden, director of the ERC: “Sanders is positioned to win the most delegates. All 3 states are up for grabs. Trump is in a more difficult position in MI than the other two states, but each Midwest battleground could be won by either party, regardless of who becomes the Democratic nominee.”

The survey results are likely to be most predictive in Michigan, where the 3/10 primary is the 1st of 3 state contests. Presidential primaries take place in WI 4/7 and Pennsylvania on 4/28. In 2016, Sanders finished 1st in Michigan and Wisconsin, but was second to Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania.

A demographic breakdown shows some sources of candidates’ support. Combining 3 states, Democratic primary voters differ in their choices by race and age. Biden remains the top choice of black voters whereas Sanders is the leader among whites and Hispanics.
