In 1948 a choric drama titled Unto Us the Living was published. The author was Harold G. Sliker. It is a hard-hitting anti-war drama. In 1954 my high school dramatics class performed this drama at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth. I was a member of the Speaking Choir.
The message this drama delivers is essentially this:
Humans have the capability to love one another, and they have the capability to destroy the human species. Brief years ago we showed that we can kill hundreds of thousands of humans in a single nuclear holocaust. And now...we can’t even remember the names of the killing fields of World War II so blood-soaked only brief years ago. And we are safe and smug within our boundaries. Will we do it again and again and again until we have finished our brief hour upon the stage and are gone forever?
