The current chaos in Wisconsin came after Gov. Evers announced postponing today’s primary, but overruled by the state Supreme Court, controlled by conservatives. WI will be the only state to hold an election since coronavirus crisis escalated. In Milwaukee, 5 polling places will open. Ben Wikler, Wisconsin Democrats chair, said the Supreme Court’s ruling would “consign an unknown number to their deaths.” Republicans believe they benefit from low turnout and are willing to hold an election in the midst of a pandemic.
Democrats have pushed for funding so states can pay for voting by mail. Congressional Republicans and Trump have resisted. Trump made the Republicans’ fears explicit in a recent Fox News interview. “The things they had in there were crazy. They had levels of voting, that if you ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again.”
