Trump Planning Mass Video Proceedings for Immigrants in Tents at Border

The plan is to erect giant tents subdivided into several courts, and each court containing migrants but no judges, reporters, or observers. The scenario was described at a briefing in June given by DHS officials to  Capitol Hill  senior staff. Since the meeting took place, Taylor Levy, an immigration lawyer in El Paso, and immigrant rights activists with organizations including Human Rights First have confirmed that one government official has talked off the record to activists about the tents, dubbed “port courts,” a way to supplement traditional, already crowded immigration courts, severely undermining civil liberties and the national immigration court system and asylum in America. Immigrants will be present for border  hearings, but judges presiding by video might be 1000+ miles away.
