According to FairVote senior fellow David Daley, author of the magisterial Ratf**ked: Why Your Vote Doesn't Count, the solution to the surfeit of Democratic presidential candidates is Ranked Choice Voting (RCV).
Right now, none of the four front-running Democratic candidates consistently holds onto a 30 percent level of support from the public.
With RCV, which the article defines in more detail, voters can select their first, second, and third choices for Democratic presidential candidate in the primaries. The one who first emerges with 50 percent or more of the vote wins. This can take several rounds of counting, as the candidate with the least number of votes in each round is eliminated from the running.
Daley considers this the fairest reflection of the people's choice, and his discussion is compelling.
